ABOUT ME AND THE WEBSITE

Hi

I have been studying and researching Willow Court (WCC) and Royal Derwent Hospital (RDH) for a few years. I was born and grew up in New Norfolk and have always been around the site in some form.

I find the site to be very intriguing and fascinating because of its rich history, architecture, people, culture, paranormal and stories. If only the walls could talk!!!!

Because of my passion for WCC & RDH I decided to become a member of the Derwent Valley Council Willow Court Committee to try and make a difference and save this world class attraction.

Over the years I have explored the Wards quite regularly both day and night. I started to journal my explorations and investigations in my livejournal site because there was little information available on the net about WCC & RDH. However because my livejournal was hard to locate on a Google search I decided to create a new site.

THIS SITE WILL TAKE OVER FROM MY LIVEJOURNAL –

I am also a Lead Investigation and Co-Founder of the Australia Paranormal Investigation Unit. We have held many paranormal investigations in both Council and privatly owned wards over the years with some interesting findings. To read more about APIU please follow the link.

I would like to thank Glenn Hevey, Aiden Sullivan and Shaun Hevey for helping me create this site and for their valuable input and information which they have contributed to the site.

I hope that you find this site informative, if you have any questions suggestions or would like to add please don’t hesitate to contact me.

    Hullo Nic,
I too am interested in Willow Court/RDH. At the moment I am studying mental health in my Diploma of nursing, which is how I came across this site as one of our assignments was to look into the changes to mental health services over the last 50 years in Oz. My grandma was admitted to RDH in the 50s. She got dementia so they put her in there, apparently they caught her doing a wee outside so from then on she was locked up. I didn’t hear much more than that, and my parents have both now passed away so I don’t know where I would get any further info. I didn’t know the place had been demolished, how sad. Some of the earlier buildings, like the Clock Tower are beautiful. I am also interested in other places like the old boys home in Pontville & Mt.St.Canice in Sandy Bay, they too would have some amazing history. One of my family members were put into Mt.St.Canice back in the 70s, part of it was a home for wayward girls, run by nuns. All this fascinating history. I haven’t read the history of RDH yet, like when it was first built, by whom, for what etc, perhaps I just haven’t got to that part of your website yet! Maybe someone could build a scale model of the way it used to look? Anyways, well done for keeping the stories alive, hopefully more people will contribute to it. All the best.
    Marion
