The top floor of the nurses home had bigger rooms and was used mostly back in the 70s/80s for third year nursing staff and sisters as far as I can remember.

I had seen it briefly after the presentation at our meeting but then it slipped my mind completely. Yes, I think we are more closely aligned in our thinking too.

No worries Monique, I thought you would have been aware of it. I hope you have better success than I did if you do decide to join.

I think we are on the same page judging by your comments.

There are clearly some very different views on how Willow Court should be presented as an historic site and I am concerned at the degree of disparity but that it is to be expected when there is currently no official website or position on the precinct. Roll on the new committee as this is a serious issue in my view and I think it is inappropriate for one group to promoting a particular interpretation of the site to the exclusion of others. At best it is misleading., Willow COurt it NOT a site of conscience at this point in time. It is NOT a member of the international organisation and to suggest otherwise is walking a fine line.
While I agree there is a lot we can take from the Sites of Conscience organisation, I shudder at the thought of Willow Court being portrayed in the same way as the US Pennhurst site (which was recommended as a good example of a site of conscience). That site to me is one of self-flagellation and propaganda. Not my cup of tea. Port Arthur is a much better model for the powers that be to be looking at (in my view).
The sooner this is moderated by an official committee with some clout the better. The DVC needs to be very careful re the direction things are taking but unfortunately I don't think they are (a) aware or (b) see the bigger picture or (c) really have the time to care.

Thanks for bringing this page to my attention (not surprised I haven't been invited to join - lol)

hey nick hows things mate, come across this blog by the wonders of boredem and waitin for arvo shift haha. i was readin about the ward 5 ghost and it sparked something i remember seeing a long while ago not sure if you remember the mulvanys (stephen and vincent) they used to live in the yellow house in circle street, anywayz their parents both worked at willow court and i can always remember a picture that sat on their mantle piece showing a upper body/head in a white glow looking down a corrider and im sure it was ward 5, was a pretty big thing at the time not sure if the papers got involved my memory isnt that good but it was a freakin freaky picture thats for sure. i think the parents still live their be cool to see if they still have the pic, i dont think they would mind if you went their and told them about what i have written im sure they would remember me as i was good mates with both their boys for many years.

cheers, matt

I agree. The other thing which needs to be ensured with the placement of a new fence is that it is on the correct and true boundary lines. I understand (from reliable sources) that there had been talk by DVC of having the fence positioned on the Bronte side of the road leading into the Barracks so that the Admin Building owners could have access to the rear of their building via the Barracks road.
They have access to the rear of their property on the Community House side and only own land up to the edge of the footpath on their (ie, the NW) side of the road up to the Barracks. And so, that is where the fence should go.
